Plumstead, Cape Town
Area of interest: Neurodevelopmental Assessments, newborn care, acute illnesses, palliative care
About:
My name is Dr Tasneem Kemp, a paediatrician based in Plumstead, Cape Town. I care for newborns, children and adolescents, with a special interest in neurodevelopment, newborn care and perinatal palliative care. My practice focuses mainly on neurodevelopmental assessments, while also offering general paediatric care.
I have always enjoyed working with children. During my community service at Khayelitsha District Hospital, I spent six months in paediatrics, and that experience confirmed that this was the work I wanted to do.
I studied medicine at the University of Cape Town and completed my internship at Tygerberg Hospital. I obtained my Diploma in Child Health during community service, followed by specialist training at Stellenbosch University, where I completed my FCPaed (SA) and MMed in Paediatrics. My research article received a cum laude distinction and was published.
I know that coming to a paediatrician can bring questions and worries, and I want families to feel comfortable sharing both. I take time to listen, get to know each child and talk through concerns with parents. Together, we can work towards a plan that considers their child’s needs and makes sense for their family.
Caring for children is a privilege, and I hope to be someone families feel comfortable turning to as their children grow.
