About:

Professionally, I am a HPCSA-registered Counsellor in private practice.

Before entering the counselling profession, I practised as an Attorney specialising in intellectual property law and became a Fellow of the South African Institute of Intellectual Property Law. While those experiences continue to influence the way I think and work, it is my own experiences of growth, change and being supported by others that have most shaped the Registered Counsellor that I am today.

Subsequent to leaving law, I retrained in psychology and counselling. Like many of the people I now work with, I experienced what it felt like to pursue growth while balancing the responsibilities of everyday life.

My training culminated in a postgraduate BPsych Equivalent programme and a community-based practicum with Hermanus Child and Family Services and UCT Online High School, where I had the privilege of counselling children, adolescents and families. During this time, I was honoured to receive the Academic Merit Award for the top-performing postgraduate student at Cornerstone Institute.

My 720+ hour counselling practicum provided experience in individual counselling, family support, group facilitation, community work, psychoeducation and psychometric assessments. I worked with children, adolescents, adults and families across community-based and educational settings.

This combination of professional experience, psychological training and life experience informs the way I now work with clients. Today, through Meghan Kuiper Counselling, I provide individual and group counselling to adolescents and adults navigating life's transitions. I also value opportunities to connect and collaborate with professionals and organisations working to support psychological well-being, resilience and personal development.

Personally, I live on a farm in the Elgin Valley with my husband and daughter. I completed my practicum while pregnant, wrote my final HPCSA board examination just five days before our daughter was born, and then stepped into one of life’s greatest transitions: becoming a mother.

Looking back now, I can see that my own life has been shaped by many seasons of becoming: becoming an attorney, a student again, a wife, a mother and now a counsellor in private practice. Each season has required me to let go of certainty, embrace change, and trust that growth often happens quietly, gradually, and long before we recognise it in ourselves. It would be a privilege to walk alongside you in your season(s) too.
